Safari Overview
Mount Meru Trekking - 3 Days Trekking will join the team to guard against any animal threats as you start your approach through Arusha National Park via the Momella route. Keep your eyes open and you will be rewarded with sighting of baboons, giraffe, zebra, colombus monkeys and variety of birds. From here you start your ascent through Meru's diverse vegetation zones from montane forest, moorland, semi-desert and alpine desert, until you reach its magnificent crater. Traversing round the crater rim to reach its summit, Socialist Peak at 4566m, after which you will have time to explore the ash cone that has formed in the crater during the 1910 eruption.

DAY 1
PRE DAY : ARRIVE IN ARUSHA | KILIMANJARO
DAY 2
Arusha (1400m) – Momella Gate (1500m)–Miriakamba Hut (2500)
After breakfast we will collect you from your hotel and we will drive to Arusha National Park to check all our permits are in order at the Park Headquarters. We then proceed by vehicle until we reach Momella Park Gate where we start our trek. It is mandatory on this route that an armed Park Ranger accompanies us to ensure that we are safe against any wild animal threats. Past waterfalls and oddly formed trees until we reach Miriakamba Hut.
DAY 3
Miriakamba Hut (2500m) – Saddle Hut (3500m)
As we climb higher up Mount Meru you will feel the air begin to cool and get slightly thinner. Today we will ascend over 1000 metres up to Saddle Hut at 3550m. This afternoon there is time to go for an acclimatisation hike a further 300 metres up to Little Meru at 3820m. Don't forget to take your camera to capture the views of Mount Kilimanjaro over 80 kilometres away.
DAY 4
Summit Attempt 4566m – Miriakamba Hut - Momella Gate -Arusha
We set off early around 2 a.m. following the path through scrubland to Rhino Point at 3820 metres. From here the route gets more demanding as we follow the narrow crater ridge until we reach the summit after approximately 4-5 hours. From Socialist Peak we'll watch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro and have time to explore Meru's crater and ash cone. We then descend by retracing our steps back down to Saddle Hut and onwards to Miriakamba- Momella Gate.
DAY 5
POST DAY : ONWARD JOURNEY
The Tour Price Includes
- Filtered water throughout the trek.
- Transportation to & from the mountain gate.
- Access to emergency oxygen and first aid kit.
- Professional mountain guides, cooks and porters.
- Meru certificate for your successful summit attempt.
- A fully supported climb, accompanied by an armed ranger.
- Camping equipment – tents, sleeping mattress and camping furniture.
- Pick up and drop off at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport.
- Accommodation and meals per the itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner).
- Dinner on day 1, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on day 2-4 and breakfast on day 5 of your trip.
- 3-4 porters per climber, which includes porters to carry up to 30 lbs of your personal gear.
- Pre and after trek accommodation at the hotel, 2 nights in Arusha/Moshi with bed, dinner & breakfast (HB) Meal.
- All Park fees, Rescue fees, Camping fees, and 18% VAT on tour fees and service which cost nearly 60% of the total cost.
- Fair wages for the mountain crew as approved by the Arusha National Park Authority (ANAPA), Kilimanjaro Association of Tour Operators (KIATO).
- Luggage allowance for your main bag, which will be carried by a porter, up to max. 15 kg. To make the porter’s life easier, we however strongly recommend to limit the weight of your main bag to 12 kg. For all bags exceeding 15 kg, you will need to pay for an extra porter before the start of your climb. All extra luggage, items you will not use on your climb, such safari clothing, gear and equipment, can also be safely stored at the hotel.
The Tour Price Excludes
- International and domestic flights and departure taxes (Quoted separately where applicable)
- Meals not listed above. eg Breakfast & Lunch on first day and Lunch & Dinner on the last.
- Tanzania Visa cost which is 50% except for Canadian and USA passport holders which is US$100.
- Optional Tours (short safari/tour after your climb can be arranged upon request at an extra cost).
- Portable flush toilet with a toilet tent is extra (US$100 per toilet + toilet tent)
- Mountain gears + Sleeping bag (can be rented, please ask us at the time of the booking).
- Inoculations and personal insurance (e.g. Tanzania Visa, Travel, Medical and Baggage insurance, A doctor for the group, Laundry, Souvenirs, Telephone, Beverages (available to purchase) and all other services that are not mentioned as included.
- Tips for the crew, which are mandatory on Mt. Meru. The minimum amount is 20 USD per day per guide, 10 USD per cook per day and 10 USD per porter per day. We however strongly recommend a more correct tip of 25 USD per guide per day, 15 USD per cook per day and 15 USD per porter per day. All these amounts are to be divided by all group members.
- Holiday Surcharge : A supplement of US $ 40.00 per person per day will apply to all bookings on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 31 December and 1st January
- A supplement of US $ 35.00 per person will apply to all bookings between Friday 3rd and Monday 6th April (for all 4 days) as Easter holiday surcharge.
